PET LOSS

SAYING 'GOODBYE' TO YOUR FRIEND

PETS GRIEVING FOR PETS

When the family is disrupted by the death of a pet, life changes for the surviving pet. In some cases, pets can react much as humans do. They might lose their appetite or sleep more than usual; they may become difficult or become lethargic. These depressed pets need you to help them through this period of grieving.

If your surviving pet seems to be grieving, chances are that this grief will lessen with time. As with humans, time is needed. You can offer your surviving pet extra attention. Additional exercise helps in some cases. Long walks, running and playing works off some of the anxiety.
